Vertical Light & Sound Combo with SYMFONISK and VATTENSTEN
Looking to combine ambient lighting and great sound in a stylish, space-saving setup? Here’s a simple yet elegant IKEA hack that brings together the SYMFONISK speaker and VATTENSTEN LED lightstrip to create a vertical light and sound tower. It’s minimal, affordable, and gives your room a great vibe — day or night.
What I Used
IKEA items:
- SYMFONISK speaker (IKEA x Sonos)
- VATTENSTEN LED lightstrip
Other materials:
- Aluminum profile (for LED strips)
- Frosted/glass diffuser cover (often included with LED profiles)
- Double-sided tape or glue (like TEC7)
Instructions
- Attach the LED strip (VATTENSTEN) to the aluminum profile.
- Mount the frosted glass/diffuser cover onto the profile to soften the light.
- Secure the assembled light strip to the SYMFONISK speaker using strong double-sided tape or glue — whatever you prefer.
And that’s it! The result is a sleek, vertical column that combines light and sound in one clean unit.

Why I Made It

I had an old Philips Hue Signe lamp that stopped working and missed that cozy vertical glow it provided. I also had a SYMFONISK speaker just sitting there and thought: why not combine the two?
I bought the aluminum profile for about $10 and the VATTENSTEN strip for $25. You can also use a Philips Hue LED strip if you already have one — it works just as well.
It’s a very simple hack that looks good even when it’s off, and creates a beautiful, calming atmosphere when the lights are on.
